Challenge ~ SEPATON is a leader in data protection and backup systems. Their Virtual Tape products offer breakthrough performance, scalability and simplicity for enterprise data centers. SEPATON's products enable data centers to shrink the time and increase capacity for data backup and restore operations. IT organizations do not relegate such mission critical operations to organizations and products that are not viewed as strategic long term partners. SEPATON's challenge was to prove itself in this new arena.
Solution ~ SEPATON contracted with RainCastle for a variety of projects as they re-launched the company in the data protection space. Projects included a new corporate identity that included naming, logo (for their new corporate name - "NO TAPES" spelled backward) and stationery system. RainCastle then designed and developed a new web site, collateral templates and provided copywriting for everything. Following these projects, SEPATON retained RainCastle for the user interface design of the management software used for configuring and monitoring their virtual tape products.
SEPATON's marketing communications programs were geared to establishing the company as the reliable, proven leader in the emerging area of data protection appliances. The web site, and collateral systems focused not only on the "speeds and feeds" which differentiated SEPATON but also their deep understanding of the needs and requirements of the IT organization. Case studies portraying significant wins among well-known enterprises lent further credence to their story. Email campaigns offering access to data protection white papers were useful in establishing credibility and building new leads. All such leads were fed directly from the web site into the SalesForce.com CRM system.
Because of their trust in and experience with the RainCastle team, SEPATON then tapped RainCastle to design the new product user interface. Competitive products sporting better GUI's were often judged to be superior even though they were not as robust a solution. This had a direct impact on the bottom line. RainCastle worked closely with the SEPATON Engineering team to identify the use cases for the GUI, outline a wireframe prototype and subsequently design the visual interface for each of the screens in the application. Templates for each function were coded and turned over to the engineering team for integration into the product. The result was a well-architected, robust GUI, which was consistent with the overall look and feel of the SEPATON brand.
Results ~ RainCastle helped SEPATON establish itself as a significant player in the rapidly growing data protection space. The development of the new logo, marketing materials and web site helped solidify SEPATON's position in the industry, and as a reliable business partner for mission critical data center operations. The GUI project enabled SEPATON to realize increased value through the delivery of a well designed, easy-to-use interface for its products that satisfied users and reflected the SEPATON brand. Since the completion of these projects, SEPATON has become an industry leader in its space.
