ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) is the top scientific research organization working exclusively towards a cure for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS TDI has three primary marketing goals:
As most donations come from people with some relationship to an ALS patient, the audience is educated and discerning. ALS TDI needed to differentiate themselves as the organization most likely to find the cure, thus most worthy of donations.
RainCastle created a special "virtual lab tour" to enable potential donors and the ALS community to "experience" the ALS TDI lab, meet the scientists and learn firsthand what they are accomplishing.
The virtual lab tour is a Flash-based application that includes 6 video modules, consisting of engaging interviews with the scientists from the different areas of research as they conduct their work in the laboratory and utilize computer modeling. The application is interactive, inviting the visitor to pose questions to the researchers, learn more, become an ALS Ambassador or donate money.
The integration of Flash with video content is ideal for scientific organizations that need a visually compelling way to present concepts, and for non-profits that need to communicate their mission in a way that easily communicates important content, which paves the way to increased donations. The flash with embedded video format is versatile in that it can be used on the web and be distributed on a CD.
In it's first week on the ALS TDI website, the Virtual Lab Tour had 1600 unique visits. One third of those visitors clicked through the application and 5% donated money.
The virtual Lab Tour has also become a key sales and marketing vehicle for the ALS TDI leadership.
