"River of Song" web site Picked for Educational Honor
National Endowment for the Humanities Gives Site Top Nod
Newton, MA September 2, 1999
"The Mississippi: River of Song" web site www.pbs.org/riverofsong has been chosen by the National Endowment of the Humanities as one of the top humanities sites on the Internet.
The web site was designed and developed by RainCastle Communications, Inc. of Newton for producers of The Mississippi: River of Song, a Smithsonian Institution series for public television and radio that explores the richness and vitality of American music along the Mississippi River at the close of the 20th century.
"This is very gratifying for both RainCastle and the River of Song project," said Paul Regensburg, RainCastle's President and Creative Strategist. "We worked together to create a learning space on the Web for the many genres of music and the culture found along the Mississippi. We are all very proud to win this kind of recognition."
The National Endowment of the Humanities, the Council of the Great City and MCI WorldCom Foundation selected the River of Song web site for inclusion in the National Endowment's EDSITEment Project edsitement.neh.gov. EDSITEment is a humanities web site that serves as a gateway to the best educational sites in the humanities for students, teachers and parents.
Web sites selected for inclusion in EDSITEment are nominated through responses to requests via humanities listservs and through the web site itself. After an initial screening by Endowment staff, a peer review panel assesses the sites and submits the top contenders for consideration to a Blue Ribbon panel.
